Kassandra, that’s exactly what I realized the other day, haha. English is also my second language. It’s possible to develop a clean British/American accent but you need to exercise your facial muscles regularly. I know it because I used to have one back at the uni.

Now that I mostly write in English and rarely speak it, my BBC broadcaster pronunciation has gone. And I used to be ashamed of that for a long time until I discovered Esther Perel podcast. You just listen to her adorable French accent, and you’re like, “what the hell, it’s ok, I’m fine” :)

When a foreigner speaks my language, for example, I don’t mind accent. I feel nothing but respect for them. It doesn’t really matter how “standard” you sound as long as the accent doesn’t prevent people from understanding what you say.
